TKO 500 & TKO 600 5 Speed

The TKO 500 & TKO 600 are our premiere transmission(s).  They are high performance 5 speed overdrive transmissions that offers the following benefits:

  • TKO-500: 500 lb. ft. !
  • TKO-600: “torque-carrying capacities in excess of 600 lb. ft.”  - as published by TTC!
  • Increased gas mileage 36% overdrive 5th gear drops 3000 RPM to 1920 RPM!
  • 0.82 optional 5th gear drops 3000 RPM to 2460 RPM (typically used in Road Racing)
  • Reduces noise, heat and wear
  • 31 spline output shaft
  • Upgraded material (4615) on all gears and shafts
  • 1 piece countershaft design
  • Redesigned cast-iron shift forks with 3-pad contact system (virtually no deflection)
  • Great for both street and race applications
  • High performance billet aluminum short-throw shifter with isolator (great shifting, reduces road noise, adjustable to fit any driving preference)
  • 8 shift lever positions, including 2” offset (Application flexibility)

Applications:

The TKO-500 and TKO-600 are available from the factory for most GM or Ford applications. We also have packages (or kits) for Mopar applications.  See the various pages on this web site (see list at bottom of this page) for swap/installation details for your car.

GM Version:

The GM versions (TKO-500 TCET4616) and TKO-600 TCET4618/5009) come with the following modifications to specifically fit your early GM:

  • GM 26 spline 1 1/8” input shaft.
  • GM bearing retainer to allow it to fit right to your GM bellhousing!
  • GM bellhousing bolt patter to allow it to borlt right up to your GM bellhousing!
  • The TH400 or TH350 transmission mount can be used (use 10mm x 1.5 bolts)
  • A GM speedometer gear adapter is available, as is an electronic speedo sensor.
  • Note the Shifter: section below.
  • The rear torque arm boss can be removed for you for free by us, just ask.

Mopar Conversion:

We have a Small Block Mopar conversion kit available.  Call for details.

Ford Conversion:

The Ford versions (TKO-500 TCET4615) and TKO-600 TCET4617/5008) come with the following modifications to specifically fit your Ford:

  • late model Ford 26 spline 1 1/8” input shaft.  These are the late model Ford input shaft, and  ‘early’ Ford input shafts also available through from us (JAM Performance Transmissions)
  • Ford bearing retainer to allow it to fit right to your late model Ford bellhousing!
  • Ford bellhousing bolt patter to allow it to borlt right up to your late model Ford bellhousing!
  • Stock Ford transmission mount can be used.
  • Your stock Ford speedometer adapte will work with this trans, and an electronic speedo sensor is also available.
  • Note the Shifter: section below.
  • We also offer upgrades for FE and ‘early’ Ford applications, as well as 3rd Gen GM F-Body conversions.

Output Shafts:

The TKO-500 and TKO-600 transmissions have the stronger 31 spline C6 output shaft. This is true for all applications.

Input Shafts:

  • All TKO-500 and TKO-600 transmissions have the 26 spline 1 1/8” input shaft
  • We also offer varying input shaft lengths for various applications.  For example, the 3rd gen GM F-Body requires a longer input shaft. And we offer custom input shaft lengths for FE Ford, Mopar, etc. Call for details.

Shifter:

Standard on this transmission is a high performance billet aluminum short-throw shifter that can be positioned at 16.75” or 19.5” ! It’s a specially designed shifter with an isolator to reduce road noise. It also has a unique biasing system that is adjustable to accomodate varying driving preferences.   As with all TREMEC transmissions, the shifter stops are internal, eleminating the need for external stops. Use 8mm bolts for the shifter bar.

With Forte’s custom shifters, there are 8 different shifter location options!  They are as follows (all measurements are in inches from the front face of the trans):
