Ok, so there’s a lot of discussion about shifter locations and shifter setup on the GM cars. This page is specifically dealing with the ‘64-’72 GM A-body cars.

The 66/67 A-body cars have the shifter about 3” off-center towards the driver. The ‘68-’72 cars have the shifter centered in the tunnel. It's not so
much that the shifter is to the side but I don't believe the console is as wide on the 66/67 models.
